Jared Golden for Maine
Beacon Media is proud to have helped elect Marine veteran Jared Golden to Maine's Second Congressional District, which was carried by Trump by more than 10 points.
In the primary, Golden won 54% to 46% despite being outspent 4 to 1. Golden's victory in the general election was the first time an incumbent had been unseated in ME-02 in over 100 years and removed the last Republican in the House from New England. This was also the first federal election to be decided by rank choice voting.
The key to Golden’s victory was a 12-week, $3.7 million paid media campaign that ran on all three of Maine’s broadcast markets, in-district cable, addressable cable and satellite, OTT streaming TV, digital pre-roll video and radio.
From the start, we ran multiple tracks of creative on TV and digital. In addition to facing off with a well-funded incumbent, outside groups spent $7.6 million on attack ads against Golden.
The ME-02 race gained national recognition as the most competitive paid media campaign of 2018. The Wesleyan Media Project reported, “The race pitting Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin and Democratic challenger Jared Golden featured the most broadcast ads in the country, an average of 26 an hour.”
